Top Tips To Keep The Dentist Away

A dentist appointment is enough to strike fear into the heart of anyone like me who absolutely loathes a trip to the dentist surgery. Thankfully for me I do have the wonderful Dr. Kami Hoss who always makes sure that I am at ease when I am sat in the chair. Whilst the dentist’s approach does calm me down a lot, it doesn’t completely allay my fears of visiting the dentist.

I have been this way since I was younger and in my efforts to prevent dentist appointments as much as I possibly could, I have always strived to look after my teeth. If you want to keep the dentists away, here is how you need to look after your teeth.

Brushing

You should be brushing your teeth at least twice daily, you should endeavor to use a small head which can reach all of the hidden away area of your mouth as well. When brushing you should be brushing your teeth for around 3 minutes and you should also try to brush not only the teeth themselves but also your gum line. In terms of the toothpaste that you need I would recommend something which is high in fluoride content as this will both strengthen and whiten your teeth.

Flossing

A lot of people don’t like flossing because it can cause them pain or cause they mouth to bleed but it is very important that you do make the time to floss between your teeth. Flossing ensures that you pick up all of the germs and bacteria, pieces of food and dirt that is lodged in between your teeth which your brush cannot reach. If your gums bleed when you floss, you simply need to floss with less tenacity and do so in a gentle and effective manner.

Eating

You really must be careful with the foods which you eat if you are looking after your teeth and you should try your best to stay away from anything which has high sugar content. The problem with sugar is that when it lodges in your teeth it releases enzymes which are highly dangerous and can strip away the enamel in your teeth. If you must eat sugar, try to brush your teeth or chew gum straight afterwards. Try to be careful with tough foods too, your teeth are not unbreakable and they can easily chip if you put them through too much, something which will result in a trip to the dentist in no time.

Other Impacts

Aside from keeping your teeth clean and watching what you eat, there are also some other things that can impact your teeth. Try to wear a gum shield if you are involved in sports which could put your mouth in danger. You should also avoid smoking and if you are a smoker then you need to quit as soon as possible, not only can cigarettes stain your teeth but they can also cause terrible illnesses like gum disease and even mouth cancers.

Look after your teeth and they will look after you, in turn helping you to avoid a dentists appointment.
