Ford EcoSport has almost been a legendary car in the subcompact SUV segment in India. The company has gained massive response right from the time it was first launched. The reasons that caused the car to be such a great hit in the domestic is its muscular appearance and a strong engine.
However, the new Ford EcoSport car has received a much-awaited facelift and is due for another great show at the domestic market. However, it is to be seen whether the new model performs as well as its predecessor. Not a lot of changes have been made at the facelift but the small number of revisions are prominent enough to be evident in the first instance.
Plus, the biggest question here is, with all of the changes and necessary upgradations, is it still better than the previous model? If you don’t have an answer to this, you will surely have by the end of this story.
A bunch of the changes have been made in the front section of the car, especially on the nose. The previous model had a thin strip of the grille on the top followed by a big hexagonal grille lower down. The new model gets a single piece grille with horizontal slats. The headlamps, which were very sleek on the older model, have been given a thicker appearance.
At the rear section, things aren’t different in the new model. It continues to get the tailgate-mounted spare wheel. However, what has changed is the wheel cover, and the new dual-tone rear bumper, which is added with a skid plate.
Te moment you get into the new Ford EcoSport interior, you will notice that a lot has changed inside. Barring the front-side AC vents and the door handles, everything else seems to be fresh and new. The centre console holds a new design centre AC vent along with a new touchscreen infotainment system. The button bits have been reduced greatly, due to the addition of the infotainment system. Apart from the front dashboard, the entire settings look similar to the old Ford EcoSport.
On the mechanical side, 2017 Ford EcoSport will be carrying the set of engines as the old generation. The new EcoSport will be offered in two petrol trims, i.e., a 1.5-litre petrol and a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine. The bigger engine will be capable of making a maximum power of 110 bhp and a peak torque of 140 Nm. The other turbocharged engine is the most powerful engine with a maximum power of 124 bhp along with a peak power of 170 Nm. The other 1.5-litre diesel engine makes a good power of 99 bhp along with a high torque of 205 Nm.
Moreover, since the mechanical changes have been kept away in the facelifted Ford EcoSport, the mileage figures are expected to be the same.
The new Ford EcoSport facelift is surely a very acceptable upgrade over the old generation. It looks much sportier than the old generation, much more than the outgoing model, all thanks to the revised front section and the new rear wheel cover. Moreover, there are many new features on offer as well. Save for the all-new touchscreen AVN (audio video navigation) system, which is perfectly placed on the centre console.
However, a marginally powerful engine would come more than handy over the old generation, complementing the new sportier looks. Yet, we are expecting a revised price tag, a touch more than the old version.
